The Greatest Inventions
Instructions: In today's class we will talk about important inventions and how they have transformed the world. Take 7 minutes to complete Task 1 and 2 below. Click play on the video to start your timer.
Task 1: Read the chart below with a list of what some historians think are the 10 greatest inventions in the last 1,000 years. What do you think they are? Guess what the inventions might be. Then check your answers.

When you are ready, you can CLICK HERE to check your answers. Now, with your partners decide which of these inventions you think are the 3 most important and why. How have they changed the world? Imagine these inventions didn't exist. How would the world be different?
Task 2: For the rest of the time you have, discuss the questions below with your partners.
- How many inventions have you used in the last 24 hours?
- What purpose do they serve?
- What did people use before this technology was invented?
- What future inventions do you think will change our lives in the next 20 years?
Task 3: Work with your partners to choose an important invention, technology, or product. Create an infographic that provides answers to the following information:
- Year of invention and the name of the inventor or company
- Materials or ingredients used in production
- Number of units sold around the word each year
- How the product or technology is used
- Any other details you think are relevant
When you finish, you will present your infographics to the other groups and answer their questions about your chosen product.
