Professional Practice I - Week 5 - Literature Review and Theoretical Framework
Introduction: Hello and welcome to Week 5 of the Professional Practice I of the BA in English Teaching at ULACIT term IIIC 2022. In today's class we will look at considerations for completing your literature review and theoretical framework. We will also review the drafts you wrote of your introduction, justification, and research questions and objectives and give each other feedback. Additionally, you will also participate in a webinar organized by the university on the topic of lesson planning using a Task Based Language Teaching framework.
Today's Goals:
- Explore a framework for lesson planning following the task based approach.
- Give and receive feedback and additional considerations on the first draft of your research proposal.
- Review tips for carrying out your literature review and writing your theoretical framework.
- How can task based language teaching help me organize my lessons?
- How can your research topic, questions, and objectives be refined or expanded?
- Why is it important to review the professional literature about your research project?

- Why is it important to clearly define your research problem?
- What is the difference between the following:
- A research topic
- A research problem
- A research purpose
- A research question
- What kinds of information should your introduction or purpose statement contain?
- What kinds of information should you justification contain?
Task 4: Sharing Your Research Proposal Drafts
Last week you were asked to write a preliminary draft for your research proposal including the following:
- Title:
- Topic Summary/Introduction:
- Statement of Purpose
- Topic Introduction
- Problem
- Justification:
- Importance of the problem
- Deficiencies in evidence
- Potential audience(s)
- Research Questions:
- 1 central question
- 2 or more subquestions
- Objectives:
- 1 general objective
- 2 or more specific objectives
- Theoretical Framework: Bullet points of potential topics for the literature review
- Work Schedule: When do you intend to complete the steps of your research?
- Reflection: Take 5 minutes to review the rubric at the end the document below. Regarding your Draft 1, which aspects of the rubric do you think you may need to improve? Why? What doubts do you have about your proposal?
