  Professional Practice I - Week 8 - Data Processing, Analysis, and Interpretation 1




Introduction: Hello and welcome to Week 8 of the Professional Practice I of the BA in English Teaching at ULACIT term IIIC 2022. In today's class we will review your second draft of your research projects and begin looking at techiniques for anlayzing and interpreting qualitative data that will help you draw conclusions and understandings about your study. We will also participate in a Teacher Development Workshop about teaching vocabulary. 

Today's Goals:
  • Share and compare the theoretical framework you designed for your research project.
  • Explore some data analysis techniques for qualitative research.
  • Participate in a number of practical activities to introduce and review vocabulary.
Guiding Questions:
  • What ideas make up the theoretical perspective of my research project?
  • What techniques can I use to analyze and interpret qualitative data?
  • What are some useful strategies to introduce and review new vocabulary words?

Task 1Weekly Check-In
It's week eight/nine! We haven't seen each other for two full weeks. Let's find out what you have been up to since our last meeting.

Task 2Draft 2
Draft 2 is was due this week. Let's take a moment to review your progress so far. Open your draft and skim through it for two minutes then get ready to share your screen and answer the following questions.  
  • Summarize in a few words your research topic, research problem, and research questions.
  • Walk us through your theoretical framework. You don't need to read it to use word for word. Instead, tell us the main theories or concepts you cited, what they mean, and why you chose them.
  • What questions or doubts do you have about your projects?








Task 3: Analyzing Qualitative Data
Last class we talked about data collection methods. Now let's talk about what to do with the data once you have collected it. 










Task 4: Coding Our Data
In order to bring rigor and validity to our findings we need to be systematic with our qualitative data analysis. In this activity we will analyze some interview transcripts and use an inductive process to code the text and identify themes. Click the group link below and follow the teacher's instructions.

Task 4Vocabulary Workshop
Before we begin our Teacher Development Workshop on the topic of vocabulary teaching, let's answer these questions:
  • What importance do you give vocabulary in your teaching?
  • When you were a student, what did you find difficult about learning new vocabulary?
  • How do you feel about your ability to teach vocabulary?

Instructions: Now talk with your partners about your own experiences and ideas for vocabulary teaching.
