Introduction: Hello and welcome to Week 10 of the course Teaching and Assessing Listening for the master's in English teaching at ULACIT term IIICO 2022. In today's class we will talk about features of the spoken input we provide and how these provide opportuntities and challenges for listening instruction.

Today's Goals:
  • Analyze two sample listenings to identify organizational features associated with the genre.
  • Evaluate the authenticity of a listening text and activity sequence.
  • Describe factors that contribute to the difficulty of a listening text or task.
Guiding Question
  • How can I help my students develop discourse and genre competence?
  • What does authenticity mean when it comes to listening texts and tasks?
  • What factors contribute to the level of difficulty of a text or task and what strategies can we use to simplify?
